The AES Corporation (AES) is a diversified power generation and utility company. The Company organized into six market-oriented Strategic Business Units (SBUs): the United States, Andes (Chile, Colombia, and Argentina), Brazil, MCAC (Mexico, Central America and Caribbean), EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), and Asia. Within its six SBUs, the Company has two lines of business. The first business line is generation, where the Company owns and/or operates power plants to generate and sell power to customers, such as utilities, industrial users, and other intermediaries. The second business line is utilities, where the Company owns and/or operates utilities to generate or purchase, distribute, transmit and sell electricity to customers in the residential, commercial, industrial and governmental sectors within a defined service area. In July 2014, SunEdison Inc acquired 50% interest in Silver Ridge Power LLC (SRP) from a subsidiary of AES Corp.
