Northern Oil and Gas, Inc. is an independent energy company. The Company is engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development and production of oil and natural gas properties, primarily in the Bakken and Three Forks formations within the Williston Basin in North Dakota and Montana. The Company�s primary focus is oil exploration and production through non-operated working interests in wells drilled and completed in spacing units that include its acreage. The Company primarily engages in oil and natural gas exploration and production by participating on a proportionate basis alongside third-party interests in wells drilled and completed in spacing units that include its acreage. During the year ended December 31, 2012, it acquired leasehold interests covering an aggregate of approximately 17,590 net acres in its key prospect areas. In addition, it earned approximately 6,450 net acres through farm-in arrangements during 2012.
