Central Fund of Canada Limited (Central Fund) is an investment holding company. The Company�s objective is to provide a secure, convenient, low-cost, exchange tradeable investment alternative for investors interested in holding an investment in gold and silver bullion for long-term appreciation. Its policy is to invest virtually all of its assets in long-term holdings of unencumbered, allocated and segregated gold and silver bullion, and not to speculate with regard to short-term changes in gold and silver prices, thereby providing retail and institutional investors with an ability to hold interests in gold and silver bullion without the associated high transaction and handling costs and inconvenience. As of October 31, 2013, the Company�s net assets were made up of 56.3% gold bullion and certificates, 42.9% silver bullion and certificates and 0.8% cash and other working capital amounts.
