SUPERVALU INC. (SUPERVALU) is a United States grocery channel. It operates in three segments: Retail food, Save-A-Lot and Independent business. The Company leverages its distribution operations by providing wholesale distribution and logistics and service solutions to its independent retail customers through its Independent business segment. The Retail Food and Save-A-Lot reportable segments derive revenues from the sale of groceries at retail locations operated by the Company. The Independent Business reportable segment derives revenues from wholesale distribution to independently-owned retail food stores, mass merchants and other customers. During the fiscal year ended February 23, 2013 the Company added 69 Save-A-Lot stores through new store development and closed 70 Save-A-Lot stores, including previously announced closures of 22 stores. The Company completed the sale of NAI on March 21, 2013.
