BlackRock Municipal Income Trust (the Trust) is a diversified closed-end management investment company. The Trust's investment objective is to provide current income exempt from regular federal income tax. The Trust seeks to achieve its investment objective by investing primarily in municipal bonds exempt from federal income taxes (except that the interest may be subject to the federal alternative minimum tax). It invests, normally, at least 80% of its assets in municipal bonds that are investment grade quality at the time of investment. It may invest directly in such securities or through the use of derivatives. Its investment portfolio include utility, state tax-backed, transport, health, school districts, local tax-backed, education, prerefund/escrow, tobacco and other industries. It invests in California, Illinois, New York, Texas, Nevada, New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania, District of Columbia and Michigan. The Trust's investment manager and adviser is BlackRock Advisors, LLC.
