Under an operating lease, the lessee is responsible for the maintenance and servicing of the equipment during the lease term and the lessor receives the benefit, and assumes the risk of the residual value of the equipment at the end of the lease. In May 2014, American International Group Inc completed the sale of 100% interest in International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) to AerCap Holdings N.V. In May 2014, Al Waha Capital PJSC announced that its subsidiary, AerCap Holdings NV, has completed the acquisition of International Lease Finance Corp (ILFC) from American International Group Inc (AIG).
