YKGI was incorporated by Yung Kong Co Bhd in the year 1977, initial intention was to be involved in the Food Industries. However as the food industry was not conducive for Yung Kong then, management turned to steel industry. Its name was changed to Yung Kong Galvanising Industries Bhd 2 years later. It signed a Joint Venture Agreement with Marubeni Corporation of Japan in the year 1983 for the manufacture of galvanised sheet sheets. 13 years after its first production in February 1984, in the year 1997 YKGI was listed on the second Board of KLSE. 6 years later in the year 2003, YKGI's listing was transferred to the Main Board of KLSE under the same Sector of "Industrial Products."
