Johan began its activities in 1920 as Johan Tin Dredging Ltd which operated a mining lease off the Johan River in the Kinta District of Perak with a paid-up capital of RM136,000. In 1979, the Company's mining activities ceased due to the exhaustion of economic tin mining grounds. Since then, the company was renamed JOHAN HOLDINGS BERHAD. With a new management in 1981, Johan has expanded its activities and spread its wings overseas. The company rapidly diversified away from its tin mining business. Within five years, the company was transformed into a Malaysian-grown regional and international Group. Today, Johan is an investment holding company with group companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and United Kingdom. Johan is quoted on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE).
